Regardless of how you say it, join the Eagle County Historical Society for a family-friendly Colorado Day celebration on Saturday, Aug 1, noon- 3 p.m. at the Eagle County History Museum, 100 Fairgrounds Rd. in Eagle.

“Celebrating 150 years of statehood makes this a very special year for Colorado,” says ECHS President Kathy Heicher. At the time Colorado gained statehood status in 1876, Eagle County did not exist. Rather, it was a part of Summit County, which encompassed much of Colorado’s West Slope. Eagle County was split out of Summit County in 1883.

“When Colorado became a state, Eagle County was Ute territory, just beginning to catch the interest of explorers and mountain men,” notes Heicher.

The local Historical Society has planned a special celebration that will include a special Eagle County-themed scavenger hunt, hands-on artifacts at specific exhibits, and a special, Colorado-themed bake sale. Light refreshments will be available.

The museum opens from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The scavenger hunt and special activities start at noon. Drop by to explore local history, test your Eagle County trivia knowledge, visit with friends, get a deal on a bargain local history book, and perhaps take home a treat from the old-fashioned, Colorado-themed bake sale.

There will be lots of Colorado-themed prizes for participants, particularly for those who can correctly pronounce “Sesquisemiquincentennial.” Free event. Donations are always appreciated. eaglecountyhistoricalsociety.com
